If you’re in Cusco, a friendly guide from Vicuña Peru Expeditions will collect you between 4:00 and 5:00 AM, while those in Urubamba or Ollantaytambo will receive specific pick-up times during the pre-trek briefing.

After the initial meet-up, you’ll be whisked away on a 1.5-hour private ride through the Sacred Valley of the Incas. The anticipation builds as you approach kilometer 82, the starting point of the Inca Trail, where the expedition team greets you and outlines the adventure ahead. Crossing the historic Urubamba River bridge marks the official beginning of a four-day journey along ancient Incan paths.

From Runkurakay, a further 45-minute climb leads to the second-highest pass on the trail, also known as Runkurakay Pass. If the weather cooperates, you’ll witness Machu Picchu bathed in the golden light of sunrise, an unparalleled and unforgettable sight.

After savoring the stunning morning views, we’ll make a 45-minute descent to the upper area of Machu Picchu. This spot is perfect for capturing that classic photo and taking a memorable group picture with the ancient citadel as your backdrop. From here, our group will enter Machu Picchu through the main gate, complete registration, and begin a guided tour of this magnificent archaeological site. For those who have arranged it in advance, there is an option to climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain at an additional cost, offering a more intimate encounter with the landscape and views from above.

As the guided tour concludes, the afternoon unfolds with a descent from Machu Picchu down to the town of Aguas Calientes by bus. There, you’ll meet your guide for a hearty lunch and receive your train tickets for the journey back to Cusco. The train ride will take you to Ollantaytambo, where Vicuña staff will be waiting to transfer you safely back to your hotel in Cusco, marking the end of this unforgettable journey.
