Itinerary

DAY 1:

CITY TOUR CUSCO

Cusco City Tour: Qoricancha – Sacsayhuaman

Our Cusco City Tour begins at Qoricancha, renowned as the Temple of the Sun, constructed under the orders of Inca Pachacutec (1438 – 1572). Following the Spanish arrival, it transformed into the base of the Santo Domingo Convent. Originally, during the Inca era, it was dedicated to the worship of the sun god, Inti.

Next on our itinerary is Sacsayhuaman, one of the Inca Empire’s most emblematic sites, located just minutes from the city center designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Constructed by Inca Pachacutec in the 15th century, it’s an architectural marvel comprising massive, meticulously carved stones, some towering up to 9 meters in height and weighing no less than 100 tons. These stones are meticulously arranged to form three platforms, each stretching 390 meters in length.

Quenqo – Puca Pucara – Tambomachay

Continuing our exploration, we move to the archaeological complex of Qenqo, a site dedicated to cults and ceremonies venerating Mother Earth. It’s believed to have functioned as an amphitheater for these rituals, where the deceased were placed on trapezoidal structures for ceremonies.

Our journey progresses to Puca Pucara, also known as the “Red Fort,” owing to the coloration of its stones from high iron content. Here, visitors can witness various archaeological structures including aqueducts, enclosures, and fountains. Due to its proximity to Tambomachay and its defensive features, it’s theorized to have served as a military stronghold.

Finally, we conclude our tour with Tambomachay, located just 100 meters from Puca Pucara. Carved from stone, it features a captivating arrangement of canals and waterfalls sourced from natural springs. Tambomachay held significance as a site of water worship.

Places to Visit: Santo Domingo Monastery / Qoricancha Sacsayhuaman Qenko Tambomachay Puca Pucara.
